Our Vision
It’s Compossible
What if the words waste, rubbish and trash did not exist? Imagine a language without the idea of ‘throwing away’. Can you look at a takeaway box or an apple core and see a resource?
We had this thought while working in a farmer’s market. We are a group of people based in Cork City passionate about rethinking the fate of our waste.
Our idea is this: What if all of our food waste in Cork City was converted to high quality compost (or bioenergy) with as few fossil fuel inputs as possible?
What if the compost produced was then used to grow more nutritious food? And to support tree planting, to reduce flooding impacts and erosion, to improve water quality, and to remediate polluted soils within the community?
It is an experiment, the first of its kind in Ireland.
